8 Bit NES Theme [For FoFiX 3.0+] [Updated for 3.120]

Postby death_au » Sun Nov 30, 2008 4:20 pm

When I started this theme, I tried to stick to 16 colours, but after a while I threw that out the window. Instead I made it look more like an old NES game For this reason most of the graphics are very simple indeed. Most elements of this theme were created from scratch by me (see credits below for those things that weren't).

Table of contents:
Features
Screenshots

Download
Optional Graphics
I need your help

Features:
+Custom 8-bit notes, keys, hitflames, hitglows, etc
+Custom 8-bit solo neck, bass groove neck, overdrive neck
+"Dots" style multiplier
+8-bit band animated stage
+8-bit sound effects
+8-bit menu music (based on popular rock songs)
+RB2 setlist *NEW*
+Controller/Character Select screens for FoFiX 3.120 *NEW*
+8-bit Part Images *NEW*
+8-bit Vocals graphics *NEW*
+much more...

Screenshots
(note: These are of v0.8. I'm yet to make new screenshots)
Image

Credits:
txf - original 8 bit stage
skor - the original 8 bit mod this was mostly based off
blazingamer - the megalight theme for which this theme was also based off slightly
Unerly - [youTube profile link] For all the 8-bit menu music
Denny8303 - Optional graphics (grey overdrive, orange 5th fret)
Death_au - Original graphics, theme concept, animation of 8-bit stage
(if I've forgotten anyone, please let me know)

Downloads:
Version 1.1 Mediafire, ~50MB *NEW* (Yes, my versioning sucks)
Version 0.8 - Mediafire, ~50MB

Optional Graphics
Denny8303 has been nice enough to provide some optional graphics for small annoyances, like an overly bright overdrive, and an orange 5th fret if you prefer it to pink.

Use this if the bright yellow overdrive neck hurts your eyes and blinds you.
Replace the "overdriveneck.png" in the theme folder with this:
Image

Orange 5th note notes and frets (put these directly in the theme folder as "fretbuttons.png" and "notes.png" respectfully)
Image
Image

And change the the following in the theme.ini file
Code: Select all
fret4_color = #FF00FF

Change to....

fret4_color = #FF9900

I would like more pictures for the "Slideshow" stages, and also 8-bit screw up and drum sounds in game. If anyone has any ideas or suggestions for any of this, let me know. Or if you've made your own graphics / 8-bit backgrounds / 8-bit sounds, post them in this thread and I will try and incorporate them into the theme.
Also, 8-bit "icons" for the RB2 setlist have not yet been made.

Finally, please leave any reviews or opinions... and enjoy!

FL Studio.

Really low note on FL Slayer for guitar screw up.

Really low note on Fruity Kick for drum screw up.

Nice job on the mod, I can always be ensured of quality in your mods.

I basically recorded some crowd sounds from some existing NES games (namely soccer and Blades of Steel) and mixed them up a bit. It's what crowds sounded like on an 8-bit NES

@ omfgdrphl - Thanks for the tip. I think I've already got FL Studio around somewhere, so I'll have a look for that and give it ago

@ everyone - Thanks for your praise. This theme is receiving a better reception than I'd hoped.

The Song Selection screen needs to be a bit wider i believe.
At least with my resolution (1024x768) the song names were going into the high score section of the list. =\

And the crowd cheering does sound weird, but its authentic right? haha

When I did that graphic, I lined it up so that if you get 100% it comes just inside that box. This mean that long song names did overlap it a little bit.
I just realised... I can adjust that spacing, can't I? I suppose I can add this to the first hotfix when it comes.

...This is a complete coincidence. Never played guitar zero... wait, is that where the stage bits are from?
